We had a memorial service this week for one of my mother-in-laws closest friends, she was only 42 years old! I unfortunately didn't get the chance to really get to know her but from the way my MIL talks about her and the kind words that were spoken at her memorial she was a wonderful, caring and generous person.
But the part of the service that was the most touching was the letter her nephew wrote to her. He is older now, 20 or so, and he had a great love for her and a great bond! He discussed in his letter about growing up and how kids looked up to batman/superman/spiderman as their (super)hero's with their awesome super powers but he looked at his aunt as his (super)hero! That she was there for him through all the good and bad times in his life.
This really made me think about my relationship that I have with all my nieces and nephews. I know they love me but do they look to me as someone they can count on, turn to, confide in? I want that for them! I want to be that person that can help them through any rough patches they may go through in life.
So, from this point forward I am going to try harder to not only be a better aunt but a better wife, mom, daughter, sister and friend. And it shows to me that the generosity from Tami to others is living on in others, I know I'm not the only person that was inspired at her service and I hope I can do the same some day!!
I hear ya Ellen :)
