Home Sweet Home

This saying means so much at this point! I think I posted my last post about 30 minutes too soon because shortly after publishing I had a screaming boy that threw up again in his sleep! Needless to say he was a mess so I gave him a quick bath, called our pediatrician and rushed out the door to pick up Andrew from bowling and headed to urgent care. Of course we go to urgent care on the busiest of nights, 10-12 people in front of us and almost 2 hours of wait in the waiting room (along with more puking, all over A, Andrew & I).

Once the doctor saw us he wasn't happy with how distended his belly was and was concerned about his hydration, also, the color of his puke (sorry to be graphic) was not good! So, off to the hospital for us! A was such a brave boy!! He had to get an IV which I tried to be by his side but couldn't hold back my tears and the nurse told me they would take good care of him and I could just wait in the room. 25 minutes later he returned and was EXHAUSTED (to say the least)! Unfortunately they couldn't get blood from his IV so they had to come in and poke him again. They were testing several things, at this point I don't even remember but everything came back normal.

Not a great pic but he's passed out in his bed
We spent the next several hours waiting, waiting and more waiting!! While all this time there were several things his issue could be, a couple that required surgery, so our minds were just racing, I couldn't even sleep! Around 4:30 am they finally came to get us for his x-ray, this would confirm if there was an obstruction (one of the issues that required surgery).

We finally got the results to tell us that they felt it was 'ileus', a small blockage.  They gave him a suppository and after almost an hour of pain he finally pooped! We believe he got the blockage out at that point and felt we were in the clear. The only thing we were waiting on is him to pee some more.

He ate a great breakfast & great lunch

When they were getting ready to discharge him around 1:00 we kind of resisted (weird I know, but he just didn't seem ready). His tummy was distended again and he had not peed that much, barely at all. The doctor decided to keep us for a couple more hours and then would come back and check. She felt his belly was bloated from gas and we would than monitor the amount of urine he was producing.

He went back to sleep and got about 2 hours in, when he woke, his diaper was soaked, we were so excited!! So at that point the doctor came back, talked to our pediatrician and let us go home. We got home around 6:00 pm, gave A a bath and everyone was in bed by 7:00, me asleep by 7:10 & Andrew asleep by 7:30. None of us got any sleep the night before!

We are hoping he is on the mend and have some questions still in regards to his symptoms. Pretty sure he didn't have the flu last week, so, was the ileus causing the puking all week or was it something else? How could he have visited all weekend with my brother and all 5 kids and not one person get sick, seems odd to me. He also never had a fever and only threw up after he ate, he never had a continuous throwing up like it usually is with the flu.He possibly picked up an infection when we went to a petting farm when we were in FL 2 weeks ago, definitely something I'm going to continue to question if he's not 100% back to himself on Monday.

But for now, we are all catching up on our sleep and going to work really hard at keeping this little monster 'regular', lots of fiber coming his way (hopefully not too much :)!!
